The relocation of Ebbett Holden in Hamilton is opening the door for a development in the centre of the city. A new 25,000 square metre Holden dealership in Te Rapa will be ready mid-next year, at which point work will start on the build of Union Square, a development proposed to occupy the current site on the corner of Anglesea and Hood Street.
The project will be led by Foster Develop and architects Chow Hill, who designed the VW/ Audi dealership in Hamilton East. The new block of buildings will predominately be offices, with the project leaders hoping to provide a productive area that will attract a number of business professionals to Hamilton. Wellness will be another key focus area for the development, with the project design focussed on ensuring a healthy balance between living, working and relaxing.
Union Square aims to be a functional, bustling and vibrant hub for Hamilton’s business people to thrive. The development will feature end-of-journey facilities to encourage cycling, walking and running to work, including a premium wellness centre and varied facilities for occupiers to enjoy hospitality ranging from a reasonably priced sandwich to a top quality meal.
Some of the buildings will include 2 or 3 bedroom apartments designed with a modern and innovative feel, a theme that will spill through onto the exterior of the buildings, acting as a benchmark for the Waikato of the future.
The Union Square project will be a heathy injection of commerce, culture and sophistication for the Hamilton CBD, helping developers realise the potential for the central business district and continuing the theme that the Victoria on the River development started.
This prime location, right in the heart of the city, will play host to further development as Ebbett Skoda/ Foton vacate the property directly opposite and relocate to the Grey Street dealership, taking the place of Ebbett Volkswagen, who join Holden on their journey north to Te Rapa.
”I think it’s quite exciting for Hamilton.” said Ebbett Group Managing Director Ben van den Engel, “the new site will be a productive and inviting space for both professional and after work hours.”
“Attracting another 3000 or 4000 people is exactly what’s needed to revive the city” is how Foster Develop development director Rhys Harvey described it. “The Union Square development will feature ground floor retail, food and beverage businesses, bookable meeting rooms and a multi-level carpark building amongst other exciting aspects. All of which will be perfect in facilitating the type of positive growth Hamilton needs.”
